Friday afternoon I was lucky enough to catch Dr Alan C. Logan on the Christy Clark Show (audio available after free registration on CKNW.com). Dr Logan is the author of The Clear Skin Diet so as you might expect he and Christy focused on the role of nutrition in healthy skin. Not a surprise to us at Seabuckthorn International but the acceptance of diet as a factor in our skin’s health and appearance is very recent. Why I cannot imagine. We have known since explorers sucked limes that what we eat impacts our health so how we could have missed nutrition’s impact on our largest, most visible organ is beyond me. Talk to any one of your friends and they will be able to recount the time that they ate too much chocolate, ice cream, chips, cake – you name it – and their skin broke out. Spicy foods and alcohol are stimuli to rosacea. We know that what we eat impacts our skin don’t we!

Spiking blood sugar levels, inflammation and oxidative stress were cited by Dr Logan as the most significant contributing factors to skin problems such as rosacea, acne, dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. In fact, as we now know, inflammation is now considered a significant contributing factor in ALL disease conditions! The good news is that a change in diet can regulate insulin, reduce inflammation and gobble up the free radicals produced through oxidative stress thus improving the health of our whole body including our skin.

Listening to Dr Logan was very exciting for me. We at Seabuckthorn have known for a long time that caring for the skin from the inside and the outside is the key to radiant, healthy skin. Seabuckthorn is one of the most powerful natural sources of anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants. Just for starters this Super Fruit contains high values of Omega 3, Omega 6, Omega 7 and Omega 9. Add in flavonoids, the complete isomers of Vitamin E, 15 carotenoids, 17 phytosterols, 8 phospholipids and more and you start to appreciate why our skin care program is so effective. The bioactive compounds that are in our 100 % pure nutritional products are the very same bioactive compounds that you find in our skin care products. The skin’s response to this kind of care is amazing. Super natural nutrition within and without – how could it not be!

Dr Logan is in Vancouver this weekend delivering the keynote address at The Vancouver Health Show. SBT Seabuckthorn International products are there too, being presented by vendor Naomi Raznavi, who sells our line out of a kiosk at The Park Royal Mall in West Vancouver, British Columbia. Our own Douglas Kalman was also in attendance.

Kudos to Dr Logan for so elegantly linking good skin with good diet! For his work to make the world not only a healthier, but also a more beautiful place, we believe he’s helping to Heal the World.
